Shipping and Receiving Specialist
JOB TITLE : WAREHOUSE RECEIVING SPECIALIST
JOB CLASSIFICATION : Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO : Warehouse Manager

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
  • Understanding of basic math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to work entire shift on concrete or other hard floor surface.
  • Ability to work entire shift in extreme heat or cold.
  • Ability to manually lift heavy boxes (minimum of 70 lbs.) of stock from shelves in warehouse, including reaching, lifting overhead, stooping down, crouching and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to pull stock from, and to stock, conduit racks in warehouse or yard.
  • Ability to load and unload trucks from ground level or platform.
  • Ability to safely operate material handling equipment (forklift, pallet jacks, etc.) and wire measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Parts and Supplies
  • Understanding of basic computer skills to open and close shipping documents.
  • Ability to count bundles, boxes, reels, coils, and pallets.
  • Understanding of basic computer skills in order to open and close UPS log daily.
  • Ability to comprehend, read, and to communicate the English language orally and in writing.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES:
Material Received on “S” or “SX” Purchase Order
  • If the merchandise is received by common carrier, count the number of bundles, boxes, reels, coils and/or pallets and compare to the quantities on the Bill of Lading.
  • Identify any damaged material or any shortages and note them on the Bill of Lading prior to signing it.
  • Receive merchandise by checking the items against the Packing List. When no Packing List is available, complete a Receiving Record, Form 1026.
  • With red ink, circle items received, noting any exceptions (shortages, overages, damages, etc.).
  • Stamp Packing List with “Received” st& date, initial, and send to the Accounts Payable Clerk.
  • Put saleable stock merchandise away.
  • Put non-stock (X) merchandise on the side until a Sales Register is received for shipment.
  • Put damaged, overages and incorrect merchandise on the side and hold for further instruction from the person responsible for inventory control.
  • Receive Sales Register from back order tub; fill in “quantity shipped” column and carton, coil and/or bundle block.
  • If merchandise is to be shipped at once, put material on the shipping floor and give Sales Register to Shipping Clerk (if being delivered), or give to the Counterperson (if being picked up).
  • If merchandise is to be held for future delivery, put merchandise in “Tag and Hold” area of warehouse and return the Sales Register to the back order tub.
Material Received From Customer on a Credit Memo
  • Receive merchandise by checking the items against the Credit Memo Packing Slip/Receiving Record. If no Credit Memo has been written, contact the Branch Manager, or his/her delegate, for permission to write a Credit Memo.
  • Fill in Quantity Received column on Packing Slip/ Receiving Record.
  • Stamp Packing Slip/Receiving Record copy with Received st& date and initial stamp.
  • Put saleable stock merchandise away.
  • Put non-stock, non-saleable and damaged merchandise on the side and hold for further instruction from the person responsible for inventory control.
  • Send Credit Memo and/or Packing Slip/Receiving Record copy to office.
Material Received From Customer on a Cash Sale Receipt
  • Put saleable stock merchandise away.
  • Put non-stock, non-saleable and damaged merchandise on the side and hold for further instruction from the person responsible for inventory control.

MUST HAVE PREVIOUSLY WORKED WITH AN ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTOR OR AT THE HOME DEPOT, LOWES, ORCHARD SUPPLY, GRABBER OR SIMILAR COMPANIES
